Description
SCADA’s road pedals come in two basic categories: Look-compatable and Shimano-compatible. Let’s firstly check out the Look compatible models—Keo and Delta.
Keo
There are four models in SCADA’s Keo range in two tiers. The SC-R302 is the first of the two models in the top tier. It’s constructed from 6061 aluminum. The body is CNC machined.The axle is Chromoly, and is also CNC-machined. The spring-loaded binding which holds the pedal cleat in position is made from thermoplastic reinforced with glass-fiber. The tension is adjustable. Compatible cleats are: SC-ARC10, SC-BLK10, SC-ARC11, and the SC-BLK11. The bearing is LSL bushing, sealed. Each piece weighs in at 157g.
A note about LSL bearings or Lightweight Self Lubricating bearings which are oil impregnated bushing bearings. These allow building a lighter pedal. The profile is lower which means a lower stack-height. The stack height is the distance from the center of the axle to the sole of the shoe. They are extremely light, extremely low friction, and almost completely unaffected by temperature. They can also take heavy loads under low velocity as in cycling.
The second model model in the top tier is the SC-R305 made from 6061 aluminum. The body is CNC machined.The CNC-machined axle is chromoly in cartridge form. The spring-loaded binding is made from thermoplastic reinforced with glass-fiber. The tension is adjustable. Compatible cleats are: SC-ARC10, SC-BLK10, SC-ARC11, and the SC-BLK11. The bearing is LSL bushing, sealed. Each piece weighs in at 146g.
The first model in the second tier is the SC-R304ST with a thermoplastic injected body rather than aluminum. The axle is CNC machined. The spring-loaded binding is thermoplastic reinforced with glass-fiber. The binding tension is also adjustable. Compatible cleats are: SC-ARC10, SC-BLK10, SC-ARC11, and the SC-BLK11. The bearing is LSL bushing, sealed. Each piece is 125g.
The second model in the second tier is the SC-R301, also available in a variation—SC-R301B. The body is made from die-cast aluminum, with a CNC-machined chromoly (cartridge) axle. The binding is thermoplastic, fiber-glass reinforced. The binding tension is also adjustable. Compatible cleats are: SC-ARC10, SC-BLK10, SC-ARC11, and the SC-BLK11. The bearing is LSL bushing, sealed. The SC-R301B version has ball bearings. Each piece is 164g.
Shimano SPD-SL & SPD
SCADA’s Shimano-compatible range consists of three SPD-SL models, four SPD models and three flat pedals.
The first of the SPD-SL models is the SC-R503, with a 6061 aluminum, CNC-machined body and a CNC-mahcined chromoly axle. The binding is thermoplastic, fiber-glass reinforced with a tension-adjustable binding. The suitable cleats are the SC-RSL1, SC-BSL1, SC-RSL11, and the SC-BSL11. The bearing is LSL bushing, sealed. Each piece is 163g. The second model is the SC-R502 with an injection thermoplastic body. The axle is CNC-machined chromoly (cartridge).The binding is thermoplastic, fiber-glass reinforced with a tension-adjustable binding. The suitable cleats are the SC-RSL1, SC-BSL1, SC-RSL11, and the SC-BSL11. The bearing is LSL bushing, sealed. Each piece is 148g. The third model is the SC-R501. It has a die-cast aluminium body and CNC-machined chromoly (cartridge) axle.The binding is glass-fiber reinforced thermoplastic, with a tension-adjustable binding. The suitable cleats are the SC-RSL1, SC-BSL1, SC-RSL11, and the SC-BSL11. The bearing is LSL bushing, sealed. Each piece is 165g.
The first of the SPD models is the SC-R904, with a 6061 aluminum, CNC-machined body and a CNC-machined chromoly axle. The bearing is LSL bushing, sealed. The binding is chromoly, single-sided, and tension adjustable. Each piece weighs 132g.The compatible cleat is SC-C01F. The second SPD model is the SC-R905. Like the R904, the R905 has a 6061 aluminum, CNC-machined body and a CNC-machined chromoly axle. The bearing is LSL bushing, sealed. The binding is chromoly, single-sided, and tension adjustable. The compatible cleat is also SC-C01F. Each piece weighs 138g. The extra few grams is due to the extra support on the rear, making it more of a design you might find on an mtb. The third SPD model is the SC-R906. The spec is identical to the R905, although it weighs in at 136g, and the shape is a little different.
Flat
The first of the flat pedals is the SC-R701B, with a polypropylene body, a forged chromoly axle, and ball bearings. The binding is the EMP267 toe-clip and strap. Each piece is 147g. The second of the flat pedals is the SC-R702, with a die-cast, high-polished aluminium body and CNC-machined chromoly axle. You can attach a toe-clip and strap to this. The bearing is LSL bushing, sealed. A ball-bearing version, SC-R702B is available. Each piece is 127g. Reflectors are included. The third is SC-R703. It has a die-cast, high-polished aluminium body and CNC-machined chromoly axle. The bearing is LSL bushing, sealed. A ball-bearing version, SC-R703B is available. Each piece is 134g. Reflectors are included.
